A Restoration of Evil Rewrite – Agenda Cards

A Restoration of Evil Rewrite – Agenda Cards

I found that the Call of Cthulhu A Restoration of Evil” mini-adventure, although perfect for a convention game, still did not convey enough about the cult.  In one instance, I am not sure the group completely understood that it was a cult at the center of the plot.  Nevermind the fact that there is a new one moving into the situation.  I admittedly complicated things by injecting more inspirations from the source material, though.

So I can up with Secret Agenda cards that I will pass out in my next session at a con.  The players will have the option of integrating these ideas into their character or not but can’t use anything they learn from these cards to solve the mystery unless they choose to use the role.  They are generic enough that I think they would work into any character concept.

A Restoration of Evil

Secret Agenda

CULTIST

You are a cultist agent seeking relics and tomes of the dead cult in Red Hook.  There was a cult there at one time and it died after a terrible right with the police.  They served a different (and inferior) deity but their raw power still can useful.  Any relic or tome taken (at any cost) in the name of your cult will help your cause.

A Restoration of Evil

Secret Agenda

CLERGY

There was a cult in Red Hook and the Clergy has sent you as their agent of Heaven to destroy any remnants of it, at any cost.  The potential evil from this location far outweighs the potential lives lost.

A Restoration of Evil

Secret Agenda

RELIC HUNTER

Rumors of a relic washing up on the shores of Red Hook have drawn your attention.  Many relic hunters have an interest in it but you got the assignment from MU first.  Does it belong in a museum or sold on the black market?  Depends on how you feel when you find it.

Secret Agenda

REFORMED CULTIST

There was a cult in Red Hook, one worse than the one you were a member of – child sacrifices, black magic and gates to other worlds.  The cult you were involved with, however, has turned its attention to Red Hook and it could mean more power for them (which you don’t want).  Watch for the White Chapel!  If it appears, you know they are close.

A Restoration of Evil

Secret Agenda

ACADEMIC

Knowledge is what motivates your kind and knowledge is power within the University.  Gaining that power before anyone else and utilizing it to your advantage is what motivates you.  A rival at MU seems to believe that your pursuits into the paranormal are futile and lack true intellect.  To prove him wrong, you need true proof of the paranormal, at any cost.

A Restoration of Evil

Secret Agenda

MILITANT REALIST

Nothing can exist beyond the reality you know and study.  Everything has a rational explanation. And anything that doesn’t must be destroyed.  It should not exist in this world.  The world must remain real and rational.  Anything else is intellectual blasphemy.

Next session: ConCarolinas 2016- Will post a report here

ConCarolinas 2016

The cards worked interestingly.  I did not have enough players to really get a good test but I purposely placed the Cultist out to create a conflict.  It happened and ended with the death of the Cultist.
