d6 Adventure: Locations is a new RPG Sourcebook from West End Games.
West End Games comes further out of the ashes with more support for the revived d6 line of games. My confidence in this line continues to grow as I see what they have in store for us.
From the back cover:
“The D6 Adventure: Locations supplement gives gamemasters and players details on over 30 different modern-day locations.”
d6 Adventure: Locations, for a very simple concept of a book, supplies a lot more than just descriptions and maps of specific locations. It does however, provide a general description that includes some common facts about the particular location, genre notes pertaining to the location and other interesting information. Also included are subsections calledDon’t Miss …(a section that describes a more specific location in less general terms),Things to See(a list of items to add more detail to the location),People to Meet(a list of NPCs with stats of common people seen at this location),andThings to Do(more scenario hooks and ideas for the gamemaster to use related to the location).
Locations include mundane places like an airport, apartment, convenience store, hotel/motel, and mall, as well as the more interesting like casinos, amusement parks and a cavern system. There is also the more exotic locations like island stronghold, secret headquarters, and UFO-style spaceship. Most include a reasonably detailed map but not every one. Some have high altitude black and white photographs of a sample of the location that one can derive a picture from. One thing I have been known to do is search the internet for maps of common places, and I use sites like TerraServer.com and such to get a good layout of a small town, airport, or other place like that. This book may be able to provide just what I need sometime.
From the back cover:
“This book requires the D6 Adventure Rulebook to get the most direct use out of it, but it’s generic enough for any modern roleplaying game.”
Probably one of the more outstanding uses of this book is in other modern games. In fact, I have already made use of it once in a d20 Modern game. The information is generic enough that it can be ported into any system.
In conclusion, for as cheap as this book is, it is a good value. I feel that West End Games has a better mind for what a gamer’s budget is than most companies (perhaps a result of their emergence from near destruction). This is a reasonably good book with great little nugget adventure ideas for each location. The writers were very imaginative.
