Bandit Dawn: Wetwar Mission Book 1 is a new PDF Game Supplement from Black Powder Games.

Some time ago I reviewed Wetwar and was reasonably impressed with the concepts and mechanics but not impressed with the layout and art. Now they have released their first supplement and it does not appear the aspects I was not impressed with have changed. This supplement supplies 5 scenarios in which people can play Wetwar. The Wetwar rules are required.

From page # 1: “There is no unwinable war.”

After the Introduction which explains the format the book uses to layout each scenario, it kicks right into each scenario. Each scenario has an outcome that rewards the player with points and each directs the players to the next scenario.

Mission 1: Turf War – This is a basic fight scenario that uses a special Black Market pricing chart for units. Players set up the board in a 3×3 tile grid and then buy units with 50 G. Winner gains the contract for the next scenario.

Mission 2: Retaliation Thieves – This is a scenario that pits Contracted Buka vs. Thieving Buka. A House Parris Rapid Response Gunsuit is already placed on the board, which is the goal of this mission. The prototype gunsuit is under the watch of the Contracted Buka, while the Thieving Buka are obviously supposed to steal it. It supplies the stats for the prototype gunsuit. The tile is found in the back. This takes place on a 3×3 tile board.

Mission 3: Code Quarantine – This scenario follows Retaliation Thieves, and it is in fact the retaliations of House Parris for the theft (or attempted theft) of the prototype. They send out Master Aguar Devolver (genetically engineered creatures) to hunt down the Buka Thieves. The Devolver is a particular nasty creature with interesting properties. Stats for the Devolver and its related “minions” are provided. The next scenario depends on who won.

From page # 1: “Fight with honor.”

Mission 4a: The Wolves of Dawn – The Buka players retaliate against the House Parris Chairman. He is heavily guarded and has a few tricks up his sleeve. His Wolven Guards (stats provided) and RRG Gunsuits will prove to be a challenge to the Buka gangs attacking.

Mission 4b: Maximum Run – The Buka gangs are in the run while the Chairman sends out his forces to attack. On this 5×2 board, the Wolven Guards and Ratta units along with other units attack the Buka gangs.

The mission book ends with Unit Reference Cards and counters.

The layout could use a little work. It is a little busy and ink heavy. The art of course, leaves a lot to be desired, but the concept is good.

In conclusion, this is a good supplement for those that like Wetwar game. I recommend getting this if you liked Wetwar.
