Savage V: the Setting

Savage V: the Setting

With the direction I am taking this setting, I am advancing things to 1986, about 3 years after the initial invasion. I am taking liberties with The Final Battle and the terrible Series that followed with the Red Dust and it’s effects on Earth. I am also bringing in the Second Wave of ships that was sent to back fill and supply the first 50 ships.

The Zones

There are two Zones on Earth – Red Zone and Green Zone. Contrary to conventional logic, the Red Zones are the safe zones to Earthers. This is where the Red Dust is still active. The Green Zones are where the Visitors can live and breath without being overly concerned about the Red Dust. However, the Red Dust is not dead there, it’s just dormant. So when a Visitor returns to their Mothership, they have to go through considerable decontamination protocols before allowing anyone on board.

Captured vs. Enemy Motherships

A few Motherships are captured and in the hands of the provisional governments, captured by Resistance fighter during the Red Dust incident or the months that followed. A few did crash and explode

Technology

I believe that a 1986 in this setting would be a very different 1986 from the one we know. Some technology from the Visitors has integrated into our society a little more, out of sheer convenience. Imagine a race used to global communication in the palm of their hands coming to the 1980s US. I think cell phone and global networking would advance a little more just out of convenience to the Visitors.

So perhaps a limited form of cell phone communication (perhaps dependent on the motherships) as well as a global internet (again, dependent on the motherships) was build. This could have accelerated our own development of the same technology. The first cell phone was invented in 1973 so there is a possibility.

So a hybrid-technology of cell phone and internet technology may be in existence. Not everyone has access but there is an tech underground that may have what is needed.

NOTE: From The Chicago Conversion – the Visitors knocked out a majority of Earth’s satellites on their way out. This would be global communication would be limited. Getting back up would be impossible until the Motherships are gone.

Government & Military

From what I saw in the shows and read in the books, the world governments have been left in shambles. Lulled into false sense of peace, old nation rivalries have been forgotten. Coupled that with the number of Converted through the government echelons, it’s not likely to return to normal anytime soon. The Converted have to be rooted out and the Visitors have to be ultimately defeated before normalcy can return.

The World’s collective militaries are probably equally in shambles. The leaders are either converted, serving a converted, in storage for Visitor food or working for the resistance. The converted seem to represent law and order, so most would follow them. But the revelations on the Day the Red Dust Fell has broken some of those allegiances. Countries are divided by the people that believe the Visitors and those that do not. The military would probably be no different. The Converted – at the smart ones – would side with Law and Order until the Visitors returned, secretly working towards that end however they could.

I got the impression that the military was being dismantled n the US by the Visitors, secretly. They were keeping just enough to supplement their needs, converting all the officers needed to keep the Military under control.

By 1986, I figure a few things would happen. The world would be in a total war stance. The freed regions – called the Red Zones – would try to keep some semblance of law and order, probably under some version of martial law. Those in power were once freedom fighters and the Converted officials – government and military – were slowly weeded out. The countries that are still not whole due to the Red Dust have been under provisional governments.

In the United States, for instances, the Constitution has been temporarily suspended. The military, which is primarily a conglomeration of the resistance groups, enforce martial law until all Converted are routed out of society. The country has been divided up into more manageable temporary territories or provinces until they can be brought back together – East Coast Region – all the land east of the Appalachians, Mid-West – all the land between Appalachians and the Rockies, and the West. Each Province is governed by a military appointed regional governor who has the powers of a temporary president.

1983 – Visitors Arrive

1984 – Red Dust is released and the Visitors retreat, hiding behind the moon. The Resistance capture 3 Motherships

The Resistance works hard to re-establish order in the areas they can, working with fragments of the government, local authorities and military.  Unfortunately, the Converted still exist and form their own bands of resistance, biding their time for when the Visitors will return.

1985 – Red dust begins to be less effective in certain regions of Earth (equatorial) and the Visitors begin to return to those regions. The Resistance (now the Provisional Representative Militia) form the Homeworld Security Council.  They develop ways to detect converted and through drug therapy devised by the CIA and the KGB, eventually reverse some cases.

The War for Earth has begun.
