While re-watching the Stargate SG-1, I am getting all kinds of ideas for a campaign once again. Going back to SG is something I would love to do. Recently, I invested into a new incarnation of the roleplaying game, compatible with 5th edition D&D. While I respect that effort, I think I would lean towards Savage Worlds, to be honest.
Throughout the show, we see not only primitive civilizations but also some industrialized societies too. Two that come to mind were the Langara and Tagrea. Another is P2X-416 (Optricans and Bedrosians). As of the 7th season of Stargate, these civilizations have a active Stargate. Who is to say they did not start a Stargate program on their own. Why does a Stargate program have to be an Earth only thing.
A campaign would involve creating these new programs, in similar locations. Questions that would have to be answered:
Do they make it public?
With the current threats from the Goa’uld, I somehow doubt it.
Local politics?
SGC had to deal with the Russians and eventually the NATO allies.
Langara have 3 major super powers that finally came together but what are the politics there? Are they performing joint operations? How is the world unification going on that world with Jonus in charge. Jonus could be in command of SGC or at least an advisor.
There is less known about Tagrea other than the delicate balance between the Government and the Military. The leader had just stemmed off a coup at the end of their episode. He may have remained in contact with SGC and started their own program. Any local politics would have to be made up for the planet as I am sure there are other factions, nations or societies the leader has to deal with,
P2X-416 could be interesting in that they are a planet in conflict, based on religious beliefs. One side (Bedrosians) believes that the Goa’uld, Nefertum, created them on their homeworld, rather than having been taken through the Stargate. The other side believes in the truth – that they were brought here from another world by Nefertum. The Bendrosians have the Stargate and imagine their surprise when they discover that have to agree with their enemies. Would world peace come about or would the Bedrosians hide the truth to matain their false sense of superiority. Either way, they would be interesting to deal with.
I am thinking of a campaign that either include one or more of these world’s attempts at a Stargate program. Because we know them the best, maybe the Langaran have finally come to a unified agreement between the factions. But they also ally with the Tagreas eventually and begin to explore together. Both are story of steam punk level technology, with some ancient and Goa’uld tech mixed in, so that could create interesting tech situations.
Then they come across P2X-416 which will have a name that the locals call it – Bedros or Optris or something combination. They meeting the Bedrosians and have a little conflict. Eventually a small local Stargate wars insures between the three planets. But the Goa’uld or a new threat causes everyone to haul back and make an uneasy peace.
New Threat? Not the Ori or the Goa’uld but something else, something new.
The new Stargate SG-1 RPG includes other races including the Unas, the Tok’ra, and a new one that is kind of an offshoot of the Nox. I would like to expand on that, perhaps using the lesser known aliens available, like Serrakin from Hebridia, the Hebridian humans, their cross-breeds, for instance. They had some advanced tech and could bring these others up to speed.
Another dangling plotline in relation to this is interest that Nirrti took to Jonas Quiin and how much has changed in extra-Terran humans since they were taken by the Goa’uld. This could be explored with all the various human races.
