2008 Summer Movie Season Opening Up
May 9 – Speed Racer – OMG, this looks so campy and stupidly over-the-top. I liked Speed Racer as a kid but never really thought it could translate to the big screen. Only with the wonders of CGI is this possible. I’ll wait for DVD on this one.
May 16 – The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – This sequel to “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” – I never read the books and was somewhat disappointed with the first movie because it simply did not have the depth I was expecting. Maybe this one will.
May 22 – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – I have heard they are linking Aztec/Mayan Mythology surrounding the Cystal Skulls and Alien visitation on Earth. Russians are the bad guys now – Indy is getting old after all.
June 13 – The Incredible Hulk – This is kind of a do-over for Universal. I never saw the on that they are trying to forget and I am not entirely sure I will even bother seeing this one.
June 20 – Get Smart – OK, not sci-fi per se, but still one of my favorites. Not sure it is worth arranging for babysitter and going to the theater but I will see it one way or another, probably on DVD.
July 11 – Hellboy II: The Golden Army – THis looks very cool. I am a cloest fan of Hellboy. THe first movie I thoroughly enjoyed. But with all that I want to see, this one may have to wait for DVD.
July 11 – Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D – this is one of my favorite Vernes stories but this one simply looks lame.
July 18 – The Dark Knight – LOOKING forward to this one greatly!! Although I am not that impressed with their take on the Joker.
July 25 – The X Files Sequel – This kind of snuck up on me. I know that Chris Carter has wanted to do a sequel for along time, but hasn’t the passion for X-files kind of faded? I was a HUGE Fan. It was a GREAT show! But movie was not so great but it was OK. But unless they plan to revive the show somehow, not sure if a sequel is worth it.
Aug. 1 – The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor – The long awaited movie in the Mummy series, I did not even know they were trying to make one. I really like Brandon Frazier character in both movies previous, although the Mummy 2 was simply AWEFUL as a movie.
Aug. 15 – Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Ugggh, I won’t go into my personal loathing of the Star Wars universe and what George Lucas has turned it into. Let just say I won’t be seeing this.
