Late Fall 1922, North Carolina Mountains
Deep in the mountains of western North Carolina, an isolated estate sits on the shore of a remote crater lake. When troubling reports and unanswered questions draw a group of Investigators into the wilderness, they find themselves following a trail of old legends, strange disappearances, and secrets that have lain buried in the mountains for generations.
The deeper they travel, the more the familiar world seems to fall away. Abandoned places, unsettling folklore, and inexplicable signs in the forest suggest that something has awakened around the lake—and that the people living there may already be caught in its shadow.
Horrors on the Mountain Lake is a Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition scenario of investigation and slowly escalating wilderness horror, combining Appalachian isolation, ancient mysteries, family tragedy, and the creeping realization that some things were buried for a reason.
A Solitary Mind
1921. Redbrick, North Carolina
The Great War has been over for three years, but in the quiet countryside surrounding the small quarry town of Redbrick, some residents are beginning to wonder if the war has truly ended.
It begins with thunderstorms beneath clear skies. Then come unexplained explosions, reports of automatic gunfire deep in the woods, strange footprints that lead nowhere, and frightened witnesses who swear they have seen soldiers moving through the trees at night.
Nearby Fort Bragg denies conducting exercises in the area, yet evidence found at the sites points increasingly toward military weapons—and toward a war fought thousands of miles away. The veterans of Redbrick know what they hear rolling across the countryside after dark. It isn’t thunder. It’s artillery.
As the disturbances grow stronger, investigators searching for a rational explanation find themselves drawn into something far stranger: a forgotten episode from the closing days of the Great War, whispered stories that some veterans have spent years trying to forget, and a battlefield that may not be as distant as it should be.
In Redbrick, the past isn’t merely being remembered. It is coming back.
