It’s no fun to just name a game Light Pistol or Medium Laser. It’s more fun to give a gun a connection to the setting and story. Here is a method of making up a gun name, using the conventions of history. The general convention is {Manufacturer} {Regime Convention} {Nickname} .
Manufacturer
| Roll 1d6 | Reich/Republic | Empire |
| 1 | Hokker | Arisakuro |
| 2 | Schmeisser | Namboya |
| 3 | Changler | Kamada |
| 4 | Mauser | Arisakuro |
| 5 | Luger | Namboya |
| 6 | BerHell | Kamada |
Reich/Republic
This is the common Reich format – Type of Weapon + Model/Designation + Year (often abbreviated or implied). The Model/Designation Number is often referred to a design series or a specific variant like k for kurz (short) or lang (long). This is also where non-slug thrower designations are sometimes placed like Gyrojet, Plasma or Laser. This is usually followed by a two-digit year (e.g., “38” for 2038, “42” for 2042), usually referring to the year of introduction, design year, adoption year, or a significant revision.
Empire
Imperial weapon naming conventions are primarily based on the Type (shiki) system, which refers to the last two digits of the year in the Imperial calendar when the weapon was adopted or designed. However, as weaponry diversified, designations like P for Pistol, MP for machine pistol or submachine gun, etc were added after the war.
The core of Imperial weapon naming was the Type designation, followed by a two-digit number. This number represented the last two digits of the Imperial calendar year (Kōki) when the weapon was officially adopted or its design finalized. The Imperial calendar begins in 660 BCE, the year of the legendary founding of Japan by Emperor Jimmu.
