B-movie Inspirations: Nemesis (1992) and its sequels
Back in the early 90s, I got a copy of Nemesis from the local video store and watched it with a group of gamer friends as a movie night kind of thing. We were expecting just another terrible low budget B-movie with very little substance. We were pleasantly surprised by what is now considered a cult classic. It was a great action flick with awesome gun play and a deep story underneath it (although not very original). It turned out to be a very satisfying film. With actors like a very young Thomas Jane, Tim Thomerson, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Brion James, and using great sets like the Kaiser Steel Mill in Fontana, CA. and Yuma Territorial Prison State Park, how can you go wrong?
Husks (True20)
Level 4 creature (Medium-Sized Undead)
Blackwater Creek
Setting/System: 1920s USA/Call of Cthulhu 7e I ran this at RonCon Spring 2015 in 7th edition CoC. It was a blast. The basic premise deals with a source of illegal whiskey somewhere in the backwoods of Massachusetts. I did not change the adventure all that much but I planned for at least 8 players (although…
Gardhyi
The dark agents of the I’krl are not that hard to imagine infiltrating the worlds of Fading Suns. Forgoing the “Men In Black” parallels, they can pass as Changed fairly easily. Infiltrating from outside the Known Worlds, the Gardhyi would be first introducing their influence among the lost worlds. There, humanity is less influenced by…
Lost Mine of Phandelver
System/Setting: D&D 5e/Forgotten Realms Ended: March 13, 2015 Tried my hand at D&D through the new version. This was a straightforward short campaign with very little depth and a lot of combat. My experience with D&D 5e was very pleasant but the adventure was just a little shallow for me.
Kontamination (RonCon Fall 2014)
System/Setting: Savage Worlds/Achtung! Cthulhu Ran this at RonCon Fall 2014. Very cool adventure but hard to fit into a 4 hour session. Because the players have multiple identities, a lot of prep work is needed. My review of this adventure on JustUs Productions The Gamer’s Codex.
Alien, This time its War Redesign
I tried to make the board game a little more flexible and I also upgraded to minis.
B-Movie Inspirations: P-51 Dragon Fighter (2014)
Browsing through available movies, I found a gem of a movie that I really connected with. I have been running Actung! Cthulhu all year at every convention I have been at this year, and I just finished reviewing both the Investigator’s Guide and the Keeper’s Guide. When I saw the title, I was immediately drawn to it. Also, I have focused so strongly on old cheese, I felt that some new cheese was needed. The problem is that there is so much new cheese to choose from. Anybody with a 3D rendering program and a few friends who can half-way act is putting together a monster movie of some kind. And the Syfy Channel is buying them up, no matter how bad they are. It is like they are throwing cheese at a wall and hoping something sticks to make a market for it.
Fading Suns True20 V2.
The Races Update A even more complete conversion. Added the d20 races from the Character Codex, 2 new races from other sources, updated existing races with new options. I added the Ascorbites, Etyri, Gannock, Hironem, Oro’ym, and the Shantor from the Character Codex. Against my best judgement, I even included the Oro’ym, and the Shantor….
